AUCTIONS
At MASI
The MASI auctions are held three times a year - in the winter (February), in the spring (April or May) and in the fall (November). They are a standard auction with an auctioneer running a verbal auction throughout the day. A silent auction runs for most of the day as well.
Sellers must pre-register with the auction chairman and only aquarium or pond related items may be sold. Buyers may register at the door. Registration is free. The auction split is set before the auction and defined in the rules. You do not need to be a member to buy or to sell, but MASI members get priority of registration as a benefit of membership.
Once the auctioneer says “sold”, items are sold. If you want to bid on an item, hold your bidder number up until you no longer want to bid. Call the auctioneer’s attention if he/she doesn’t see you.
Everyone must pay in full at the end of the auction. Payment by cash or credit card is accepted. We do not apply a person’s sales to their purchases. Payments will be made electronically or by check at the seller’s choice within 7 days of the close of the auction.

Monster Fish Policy
The Missouri Aquarium Society (MASI) does not allow the sale (including at swaps, auctions, and on social media) of fish or other animals that grow to an adult size in which they cannot live comfortably in a 200 gallon aquarium, meaning that they are able to access shelter within the tank and can fully turn around within the narrow dimensions of the tank. For most species, this means a maximum adult size of 14 inches. The final decision is up to the MASI Council appointed administrator of the event/platform involved.
Such fish may be offered for free rehoming/rescue.
An exception is made for koi to live in large ponds.
Examples of fish prohibited for sale within MASI include, but are not limited to: Arapaima gigas, redtail catfish (Phractocephalus hemioliopterus), iridescent sharks (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus), silver arowana (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum), pacu (various species including Colossoma macropomum), and tiger shovelnose (Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum).
Any fish or other animals banned by Missouri or federal law are not allowed regardless of size.
I didn't used to know what the word auction meant, but then it was explained to me. I might've been about 6-7 years old at the time, and I thought the word was funny. Later, I realized that nothing is really funny, because the universe is a cruel joke. Then I went to the MASI auction and it was pretty cool.
