MASI ROCKS!!

The George Maier Fund:

The George Maier Fund honors Mr. George Maier, a founding member of the American Killifish Association, a mentor to many, many members, and played a critical role in the organizations early success. The Fund is a tax exempt public charity, IRS 501(c)3, dedicated to issuing grants exclusively for the study of killifish. These grants are issued directly to students and professionals to offset direct expenses associated with their studies in support the goals of the organization.

Specifically: To enhance the knowledge of killifish, especially as applied to their reproduction, life cycle, maintenance, nutritional requirements and food sources, biology, ecology, habitat, conservation, nomenclatural and biological relationships. Grants are typically issued each Spring. The grant recipients are determined by a autonomous group of professionals who evaluate the proposals received during a defined period for submissions. The principals, the members of the Board of Directors and the members of the grant committee are all non-paid volunteers. As a result, more than 98% of donations received go directly to grants.

We have issued 17 grants since 2011, valued at $37,000.The projects partially or fully funded since 2011 have included fundamental studies in annual killifish reproduction, interrelationships among killifish species, various molecular biology studies, discovery of new species, parasite evaluations in wild populations of North American killifish and a host of other subjects.

The Maier Fund is wholly dependent on donations and fund-raising events that are staged by volunteers at shows, conventions and affiliate clubs. All donations are tax deductible, and a receipt is issued immediately upon receipt of the donation.

Direct donations can be made by check, through the website of the American Killifish Association or through www.paypal.com.
